Rijnhavenbrug Opening

The new Rijnhaven bridge connecting the Wilhelminapier and Katendrecht was officially opened by alderman Karakus, master of ceremonies Dolf Jansen and a selection of local inhabitants and merchants.

A couple of months ago I met MKgallery owner and patron of the arts Karmin Kartowikromo for the first time. We spoke about what it is like to own a gallery, about my work and "perspectives". I was humbled when a few days later, he came to visit me and asked me to participate in a small exhibition with the title "Beyond the Picturesque of the Perspective".

Maastunnel

This is the deepest point of the pedestrian tunnel of the Maastunnel, one of two tunnels (and a couple of bridges) connecting the north and south of Rotterdam.

A surprising number of joggers used the damp, tungsten-lit tunnel while I was shooting the panorama.

Pong3D on TV Wartburg @ Clash 2011

I am collaborating with TV Wartburg creator Tristan Kruithof, developing applications for his dual-faux-projected-screens-on-a-car concept. An anaglyph 3d version of the classic pong game, played by two players with trackballs on opposite ends of the car, is the first interactive act and premiered at Clash 2011 in the Oosterpoort, Groningen.

Laying of the First Stone by Claus-Casimir

On feb 23rd, count Claus-Casimir of Orange-Nassau laid the ceremonial first stones to the new extensions to the Panorama Mesdag building. With the help of his grandfather, former minister Laurens Jan Brinkhorst and under the watchfull eye of the gathered press and friends of the Panorama Mesdag, the young count seemed unfazed by the cold snowy weather and laid a sturdy row of brickwork.

Flying over the Merwede

There is not much room to hide in the basket of a hot air balloon. I dangled my camera outside the balloon basket and hid as far out of sight as I could. The camera was about a meter outside the basket, and 50 meters up in the sky.

Inside the balloon

This is what a hot air balloon looks like from the inside when it is still on the ground. Colorful.

At this point, the air inside the balloon is all "cold"; there's a big fan at the far end which fills the balloon before the burners are turned on.

Santos building attic

If this panorama were shot and shown in smell-o-vision, the distinct smell of stale spices would fill your nostrils. The Santos building has been abandoned long since serving as a warehouse for imported spices in the port of Rotterdam.

Haka Stair Well

Pumping station Rotterdamsedijk

The photography for this panorama has taken 2.5 years. Here's how that happened.

I stumbled upon this gem of industrial heritage one day only minutes before it closed. I hurried to set up my gear, only to find out my memory card was full halfway through shooting. I switched memory cards and continued shooting, only to find out at home that I lost one of the 6 shots. Panorama lost... Two and a half years later, I had another chance to enter the building, but this time I only had my camera with me, none of my other gear. Even so, I could finally complete my panorama.
