MacOS X native viewer now available

The MacOS X version of the native viewer I promised before is now available from the downloads page. For now it requires a beta version of the Shockwave player, which is publically available from Macromedia; some critical bugs were fixed in this new release, and the viewer will not work with an older plugin version. Note that the Windows version does not require this beta version, any version 10 release will do for the Windows version.

A small manual

Since the standalone viewer is essentially the same as the browser version, it can open panoramas in either simple or xml mode: You can either drop panoramas in jpg, gif, png or bmp/pict format on the application icon, or SPi-V xml files.

Step by step:

  • Download and extract your viewer, either Window or Mac OS X. If you are on OS X, don't forget to update Shockwave.
  • Download and extract the day and night demo from the downloads page.
  • Find the day-night.xml file and drop it on the SPi-V icon. After the scene has loaded you can look around and switch the day and night panoramas using the circular button in the lower left corner.
  • Alternatively you can drag one of the two panoramas found in the day-night folder onto the SPi-V icon, and the application will open that panorama in simple mode.
  • Don't forget to try to use your own panoramas, and/or see if you can blend from one of your own panoramas to another by editing the xml file.

New version available

A new version of the standalone viewers is available from the downloads page. This version adds (among a couple of bug fixes) the ability to go to fullscreen (Ctrl or Command F) and the ability to open a new file (Ctrl or Command O).

great new version

This new one works wonderfully. Putting it Full screen will give you a whole new experience (I may even want to loose the menubar on top as well). I wonder how it will work on my G5 iMac.

I used it last night to try out gallery. First changed some urls in gallery.xml to full paths and then ran it full screen. Clicking on the image took me to the browser with the right image. Going back to Spi-V gave no problems.

I even used Spi-V screenshots of the Delta wall on Flickr to give a better "picture" of what you are supposed to see. I zoomed out, full screen and took a picture. Look, I am even getting comments!
