Admin update dec 20th: I may have found the a workaround, please test
fieldOfView | SPi-V dev
works for me
It works for me in Firefox 1.5... Did it work on your machine with Firefox 1.0?
works for me too
in FF 1.5
doesn´t work for me
Same Problem here as in the original post by refocus.
Even greater Problem with my own pictures (link removed)
"Megaflickering" with three Panoramas in switch... :-(
Did work before the upgrade.
FF 1.5
Lutz
refocus and lutzschmidt, do
refocus and lutzschmidt, do the panoramas in the fullscreen gallery work on your setups? How about the panoramas in the SPi-V gallery (the first block of 6 only, these still use SPi-V 1.2)?
How did you install Firefox 1.5? Did you uninstall Firefox 1.0 first, or did you install 1.5 over 1.0?
testing
this gallery http://fieldofview.nl/spv-gallery
seems to work perfectly with my setup (Firefox 1.5)
i didn't uninstall firefox 1.x before upgrading to version 1.5

to confirm
Please let me know if the issue is present with the fullscreen gallery as well... The spv-gallery uses 1.2.14d, the fullscreen gallery uses a recent 1.3 build.
If it works in 1.2.14d, but not in 1.3, it could be a bug on my side. If not, there may something wrong with Firefox.
I have been trying to repro this bug, but after installing FF 1.5 on 5 machines which don't exhibit the problem, I am running out of ideas...
Visiting the fullscreen gallery...
funny thing... here this message is displayed:

The simple-tour or the DOF
The simple-tour or the DOF example is working in Firefox 1.5, but with the fullscreen gallery I get the same error as andy.
On my site the page http://www.panoviews.com/java/pano2.html is working fine in Opera 8.51 and in IE 6 with SPi-V 1.3rc5 and 1.2 14d, but in Firefox 1.5 the pano is flickering and jumping around with the old and the new version of the viewer.

version check
The plot thickens...
The current version on the fullscreen checks (for the first time) if the version of Shockwave installed on the system is new enough. Apparently this fails on Firefox which is very strange.
On a panorama that does work, could you press 'd' to pop up the debug message window inside SPi-V and tell me what's in the top of the window? It should be something like 'SPi-V 1.3, Shockwave 10.1 net r11'.
Debug Message
I had made a screenshot of the debug-message:

Nothing wrong with that :-(
Normally I'ld be happy with that screenshot, since there's nothing wrong there. Unfortunately, in this case, it brings me no further to a solution...
I have uploaded yet another new version to the fullscreen gallery, which removes the version check (it turns out Shockwave already checks the required version for me, and apparently does a better job at it)
Could you test the new version?
Unfortunately, since I can't oversee how many users will be affected by this bug, it is holding back the 1.3 release.
no check anymore but with the errors now..
Hi Aldo,
no upgrade message is displayed now
but the errors are now the same
like mine on your fullscreen gallery.
flickering, tilt and view are wrong.. ;-(

describe the problem specifically
Could you describe the problem more specifically? Obviously screenshots are not going to work...
Is the 'flicker' you speak of the result of switching back and forth between different views, or does it flicker to (eg) black?
Does the 'flicker' start immediately, or only when you start tilting the view. Does the flicker stop when you stop tilting?
Does panning work as expected?
Can you (a) pan and (b) tilt succesfully with the cursor keys?
detailed answer
When the pano load nothing is flickered but the pano is on the wrong side.
the cube faces looks allright but everything is on the top, like a picture you turn 90°. the bottom side is went to the top.
a) yes, i can pan but only with the mouse,
b) i can't tilt with the mouse, but when i start to pan, sometimes the pano switches to the right side.
pushing the cursor key's results in nothing.
no pan, no tilt.

1.2 vs 1.3
Since 1.2 seems to work for those involved, I changed the camera code back to the exact code of SPi-V 1.2.14d as a test.
Could you please test this one for me?
www.fieldofview.nl/pano-fullscreen/show.php?file=bristol05-inflatable.jp...
This disables quite a lot of good features/fixes (and it breaks the saver behavior), but I want to see if this is where the error lies
same problems
Hi Aldo, i get the same error.
i can pan the pano but the tilt doesnt work.. it is switching to the bottom..
and after a while it is switching to the top but you don't have a normal 180° tilt..
something is wrong with the camera code i'll guess.

not in the camera code
The fact that it is still broken actually means there's probably nothing wrong with the camera code... I changed the camera code back to version 1.2, and even though SPi-V 1.2 works fine, the new switched-back SPi-V 1.3 (which now includes the exact same camera code as 1.2) does not.
This does not make things easier to fix :-(
Could you answer the questions posed in this comment?
I think I am going to have to launch 1.3 with the FF1.5 issue as a known issue.
The pano liverpoolstreet.jpg
The pano liverpoolstreet.jpg works fine in Firefox 1 (from 12/2004).
But the same pano doesn't work in Firefox 1.5. Panning left and right with the cursor keys works, but not up and down. At a certain point, trying to tilt the pano, the whole image jumps upside down.
For me it's an issue with Firefox 1.5, there is also a thread on
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=1947131#1947131
EDIT: Aldo, on the above thread some people tested the pano, and it's working, but some people have problems to view the pano. Maybe it's the hardware, since I have an old nVidia Geforce MX400 with only 64 mb.
it isn't a harware issue, i
it isn't a harware issue, i tested it on several machines. with ati graphic cards, and old nVidia Geforce cards.
maybe it is really a bug in FF 1.5 as Thomas it describes.

how many machines?
Out of these several machines, how many exhibited the problem? All of them or a select number? Do you have any Firefox extensions installed? If so, what version(s)?
I'ld agree that it's not hardware related, especially since the 1.2.x releases work ok in FF1.5 (according to what you reported, right?).
Unfortunately I am no closer to either reproducing the bug or solving it.
on all machines the problem
on all machines the problem is exhibited.. no matter what graphic card or extension installed, just the FF 1.5 . Yes the SPi-V 1.2 Panos are working.

Do you have any Firefix extensions installed on those machines?
Aldo, my testpano
Aldo, my testpano (http://www.panoviews.com/java/pano2.html) is working today on Firefox 1.5 (no extensions installed).
That's fine, but I have no idea why it works now and why it didn't work last week.
Test MacOS
Just for information,
it works perfectly on MacOS 10.4 (Safari and Firefox).

Bug repro'd
Thanks to Thomas Rauscher, I now have a machine that is affected by this bug. Thomas sent me a computer (albeit a virtual one)...
The machine is a clean install of windows 2000, running Firefox 1.5 without any extensions. So that seems to rule out both the extensions, and incremental updates as the culprit...
Let's hope I can do more than just repro the bug, and come up with a workaround (though currently its still looking grim)
Found the culprit?
Thanks to Thomas' virtual machine, I think I have found the culprit, absurd though it may sound:
If your Firefox 1.5 is affected by this bug, would you please go to the control panel, open 'Regional and Language Options' (or the equivalent in your language), and set 'English (United States)' from the first dropdown on the Regional Options tab.
Switching this option to 'German (German)' repros the issues some of you are seeing 100% on the machine I unsuccesfully tried to repro the bugs on before. Please let me know if it helps, and what Settings you had selected.
update: It's the decimal symbol, which is set to a comma in Germany (and the rest of mainland europe) and a period in the us and uk.
Yes Aldo, this is the bug.
Yes Aldo, this is the bug. If I switch to the English language settings the pano is displayed as it should, if I switch back to German and reload the pano, it "jumps around" as before. Switching back to English the display is ok.
How did you discover this? Trial and error?
