SPi-V 1.1

I did some firther tests, and SPi-V is now officially Shockwave 8.5 safe, which means that a compatible player is now installed on just under 50%.

Other fixes/additions in 1.1:

  • Applied the same fix I applied for Safari to Camino; there is an area in the bottom of the viewer that can not be used unfortunately, but SPi-V no longer draws over areas it shouldn't draw.
  • Changes to the meter node; The meter node can now take the mouse pointer as the center of metering. Documentation changes as well as new demos to follow.

Update: In 1.1.1 I fixed a bug that would cause Shockwave errors when SPi-V generated an internal warning. This was especially noticable with the timelapse demo, since that one generates warnings when starting.

A propos, warnings and messages from the viewer. When viewing SPi-V content, press 'd' to show the last few messages. Press 'd' again to hide this display.

The new engine is already being used in the SPi-V demo gallery and is available for download.

Looking Good

Testing the hovercraft demo in Safari 1.2.3 / Mac OS X.3.5 / nVIDIA GeForce 2 TwinView 64MB VRAM.

I still see the hardware rendering moving the whole panorama a little farther up than it should. It covers the *very* bottom of the bookmarks bar and leaves a black gap at the bottom. This is not seen when I right-click and changeover to 'software rendering' (which is a *lot* slower than hardware rendering).

I can send you a screen capture if it would help.

By how many pixels

By how many pixels is SPi-V over-drawing Safari?
The black gap is a fact of life. Nothing I can do about that unfortunately.

Oh, and you really don't want to go for software rendering, even though it doesn;t have 'the gap'...
